October 2018 Center Highlights
Warrior & Family Centers:
Warrior and Family Center at Bethesda The USO Warrior and Family Center at Bethesda kicked off their fall festivities in high gear! Among an irregularly high number of YUM Lunches this month, our WR Bethesda staff was able to fit in U.S. Armed Forces Branch Birthdays, Holiday Celebrations, and Visits from the National Symphony Orchestra and the Washington Redksins! See below for a glimpse of their U.S. Navy 243rd Birthday Celebration (joined by Captain Seymour, Senior Chief Vazquez, and Seaman Smith) and their Military Children’s Halloween Costume Party! The perfect kick-off to our holiday season!
Warrior and Family Center at Fort Belvoir The focal point of USO Warrior & Family Center at Fort Belvoir’s October was their highly-anticipated annual Fall Fest. THE biggest USO Fall Fest of 2018 at the biggest USO Center in the world occured on Saturday, October 13th, and was a smash hit hosting thousands! A photo alubum from the event can be seen below! Also, our friends at NASA once agian visited military children to chat about stars and astrology. It’s safe to say our participants enjoyed themeselves!
Reagan Airport USO Lounge The amazing staff at Reagan International USO Lounge has handled the first wave of traveling military families over the holidays! Lounge Supervisor, Marty Jennings, has been restlessly coordinating his rounds to our generous grocery store donors filling the lounge refridgerator and stuffing our cabinets full of food! Special thanks to Giant Foods, Harris Teeter, and Wegmans!
Dulles International USO Lounge Our tight knit group of volunteers at Dulles International USO Lounge consistantly goes above and beyond for the service members that enter their lounge! On the second Saturday of October, our volunteer staff celebrated the United States Navy’s 243rd Birthday with a cake and decorations! Word must have spread quickly because Washington, D.C. Sports Legend and Redskins Hall of Famer, Joe Theisman, stopped by the lounge to show his appreciation for traveling service members and our volunteers! Thank you for your continued support, Joe!
BWI Airport USO Lounge The largest airport lounge in the National Capital Region has already experienced an increase in holiday travelers at their lounge. As our volunteer staff prepares for snowy conditions and increased guests/travelers, we were surprised by a visit from actor, Tom Hardy. Mr. Hardy, who was filming a new movie in the Washington, D.C. area, was touring centers with our USO, Inc. counterparts. He was more than happy to stop and meet some military families at BWI Lounge! What an experience, come back soon!
Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall USO Lounge
New Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall USO Lounge Center Supervisor, Darius Johnson, has pulled out all the stops to bring holiday festivities to his military community! Whether it’s assisting with events on Joint Base or throwing his own costume party celebrations for military children, Darius is dedicated to spreading our mission to all of the young troops on base! We can’t wait to see what Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations he has planned!
USO Fort Meade
Fort George G. Meade USO Center has been serving an eleveated number of service members and military families these past few months! The Lounge itself has limitations in square footage, but our staff has not stopped utilizing the field space in it’s backyard for all fall festivities - from Fall Fest 2018 to the spooky Movies on the Lawn series finale! Among all holiday programs, we still had time to host champion USO Missouri pup - Maverick, who made his rounds to all of our USO-Metro Centers!
